School Security Officer

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position ofSchool Security Officer.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Successful completion of Class 1 Special Officer training.
• Health and physical characteristics suitable for law enforcement duties.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Required criminal history background check physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• SORA License required upon entry or within 45 days of hire

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Major responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

Serve as the responsible person in school buildings to provide for the safety and welfare of students and school personnel under the direction of the Manager School Operations or Principal and the Office of Safety & Security.

Actively assist in supervising general department in corridors lunchrooms restrooms and school grounds during the hours in which schools are in session.

Maintain decorum and order on school grounds and in the vicinity of schools and at school events as directed by the Manager School Operations or Principal and the Office of Safety & Security.

Carry out administrative procedures necessary in maintaining safety and welfare including liaison with public safety officials and school officials.

Monitor the buildings at all times including the monitoring of lavatories periodically during the day.

Comply with the strict regulation against sitting down and socializing.

Respond promptly to the signal for calling the School Security Officer.

Assume the authority of special officer of the City of Camden during those hours and/or at such events when actually working and on duty carrying out the responsibilities of an employee of the District.

Maintain record of incidents.

Present written descriptive reports for major incidents.

Support projects and initiatives in other divisions and departments throughout CCSD on an as-needed basis.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Supervisors designee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

• Frequently moves items weighing up to 50 pounds to pack load and deliver orders; exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Frequently lifts items weighing up to 50 pounds including raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position
• Frequently bends and twists holding items weighing up to 50 pounds
• Climbing/balancing ï½ maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking standing or crouching on narrow slippery or erratically moving surfaces
• Stooping ï½ bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist
• Crouching ï½ bending body downward and forward by bending leg and spine
• Reaching ï½ extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

The following environmental conditions are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.

• Possible exposure to a range of childhood and adult illnesses.
• Subject to extreme temperatures (temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour which may be exacerbated by wind and/or humidity)
• Subject to atmospheric conditions including fumes odors dusts mists gases or poor ventilation
• Moderate to high at times noise level especially during school hours assemblies or events.
• Frequent interruptions from calls walk-ins and urgent requests.
• Possible exposure to cleaning agents instructional materials and equipment-related chemicals.
