Summary
The Home Base Primary Care (HBPC) Medical Director within the Geriatric and Extended Care Service at the Thomas E. Creek VA Health Care System is responsible for clinical over site of all HBPC services in Amarillo and satellite programs.

The HBPC Medical Director is the senior clinician and is responsible for the overall medical care delivered by the HBPC team.
- Works in collaboration with the HBPC Program Director to meet the requirements of the program.
- May have a faculty appointment and be involved in academic activities with affiliated Medical Schools residency and fellowship programs.
- Provides patient care directly and through the supervision of licensed independent practitioners (LIPs) residents fellows and medical students in the home setting and in other departments within the GEC Service line.
- Has administrative responsibilities for leadership and direction of HBPC development and programs as well as effective interface with the HBPC staff.
- Participates fully in all accreditation processes reviews and site visits.
- Provide direct patient care which includes assessments diagnosis treatment and outcome measures of healthcare problems. This includes the following: initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens performing histories and physicals ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies initiating consults and referrals and prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy VA formulary Federal & state regulations and scope of practice. Collaborate with in house specialty clinics as well as community providers.
Driving Requirement: This position has a driving requirement and requires a current valid state-issued Drivers license

Pay: Competitive salary annual performance bonus regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave 13 days of sick leave 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Conditions of employment

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Podiatrist Basic Requirements
- Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine or its equivalent from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. AND
- Residency: Completed or currently completing residency training or its equivalent approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education the Council on Podiatric Medical Education in the list published for the year the residency was completed or (2) Other residencies and training experiences or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. AND
- License: Currently hold or will hold a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
- English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Fellowship trained in Geriatrics
- Board Certificated/Board Eligible in Geriatrics
- Experience in working with Geriatric Veteran population across various clinical settings to include clinics nursing homes home care consultative practice.
- Experience in Hospice and Palliative care
Driving Requirement: Assessment must be made for any acute or chronic medical/physical condition or medication use which interferes with the ability operate the appropriate Government owned or -leased vehicle safely and without undue risk to themselves or others. The following requirements must be met:
- distant vision 20/40 in one eye with or without correction
- field of vision 70 degrees
- ability to distinguish red green and amber
- whispered voice at five feet or average hearing loss of not greater than 40 dbs. atand 2000 Hz
