THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a Motor Vehicle Operator (Title 32) (Permanent) Position Description Number D0843000 and is part of the VA G4 National Guard.


Duties

As a Motor Vehicle Operator (Title 32) WGyou will perform the below duties:

  1. Operates primarily straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32000 pounds and/or truck tractors with semitrailers or full trailers to transport personnel or pick up and deliver supplies materials or equipment. Incumbent couples and uncouples the truck tractor and semitrailer or truck and trailer and connects and disconnects the air brakes and electrical lines. Incumbent maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground in narrow or congested areas between buildings and other vehicles between parked aircraft and when positioning vehicles at loading docks. Driver operates vehicles on interstate highways winding roads and steep grades and manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the semitrailer or trailer from jackknifing. Assures cargo is properly loaded distributed and secured. Performs operator maintenance on vehicles.
  2. Ensures shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition quantities and type of material. Completes log books maintenance records reports and other transportation documents for accurate accounting. May identify inspect and segregate equipment or material as it is received for obvious damage and needed repairs.
  3. May perform warehouse work to include issuing receiving and inventorying equipment supplies and materials; loading and unloading of trucks; storing and pulling warehouse stock; packing and unpacking material; and repairing or replacing items on equipment. May select storehouse locations within the general warehousing plan. Operates electric gasoline or diesel-powered forklift trucks.
  4. May perform a variety of extensive servicing and light maintenance work on assigned vehicles. May assist in dispatching vehicles or in the issuance of forms credit cards or military drivers licences.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing states National Guard required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Member (E4/SPC - E7/SFC) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Member (E4/SPC - E7/SFC) regardless of employment status (Traditional Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to or during the advertisement period.
GROUP III - Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Army National Guard.

Military Grades: Enlisted Member (E4/SPC - E7/SFC)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience education or training operating and performing operator maintenance on one or more motor vehicles to transport personnel supplies materials or equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 12 months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the WG-07 level or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:

  2. Experience ensuring shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition quantities and type of material.

  4. Experience dispatching vehicles or in the issuance of forms credit cards or military drivers licenses.

Education
