This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. The Anesthesiology Service at the New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is a collaborative department comprised of anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists along with anesthesia residents and medical students participating through rotations. The service provides a comprehensive range of perioperative care including preoperative optimization of surgical patients intraoperative management with involvement in clinical pathways such as ERAS postoperative care and management-including participation in the surgical intensive care unit-and both acute and chronic pain management services. NMVAHCS functions as the tertiary referral center for patients across New Mexico and southern Colorado.

As an Anesthesiologist at NMVAHCS you will provide anesthesia services in both operating room and non-operating room settings. Your responsibilities will primarily include supervising CRNAs and residents with occasional opportunities to personally perform cases. The scope of procedures include but are not limited to cardiac surgery vascular surgery general surgery orthopedics ENT and urological procedures. There is a growing demand for non-OR anesthesia across various departments such as gastroenterology interventional radiology behavioral health cardiology pulmonary and MRI. Opportunities for patient care research and teaching are also available.
The NMVACHS has an academic affiliation with the University of New Mexico (UNM). This position has the possibility of obtaining a clinical appointment at the UNM. This position allows time for academic study and responsibilities and also carries the possibility of a joint faculty appointment at the UNM School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology.
Work Schedule: Anesthesia OR schedule is Monday-Friday 6:30am-3:00pm with the possibility of rotating evening shifts and after hours home call.
