Duties

  • Prepares a limited variety of short order fast food items such as hamburgers hot dogs fish and chicken sandwiches pizzas French fries etc. Prepares/slices lettuce tomatoes onions and other vegetables for sandwiches salads and pizzas.
  • Removes perishable foods from the freezer for daily activities. Assures that tables/work surfaces are promptly cleared and cleaned. Cleans other work areas to include walls floors equipment and storage areas.
  • Takes delivery of supplies and ensures proper storage of shipments after delivery. Accepts food orders from patrons and serves alcoholic beverages. Spot checks the guest checks to insure that the information recorded is correct.
  • Coordinates food and beverage needs for special events not limited to preparing and serving food and cleaning work areas. Follows all safety security and good housekeeping rules.
  • Serves as cashier in the snack bar receiving payment by cash or charge. Completes cash report at the end of assigned shift. Orders fast food items condiments and other necessary supplies. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3 para.2. Certificate of Medical Examination is required.
  • Must meet state/local age requirements at the time of appointment if serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
  • Light to heavy physical effort is required. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds occasionally lifting and carrying up to 45 pounds.
  • Incumbent must have the mental physical oral and audio ability to perform all of the duties of this job in both a satisfactory and safe manner.
  • There are requirements to walk stoop bend pull push and reach frequently and to stand for long periods of time. May be required to work on ladders and use power cleaning equipment.
  • There is a danger of falling from a ladder of slipping on a floor where food or beverages have been spilled. May work indoors in normal indoor kitchen and dining room conditions and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions running a food cart.
  • May be exposed to hot liquids sharp cutting blades and hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk in refrigerators or freezing units.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • Must meet state/local age requirements at the time of appointment if serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Ability to work without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to keep things neat clean and in order.
  • Possess basic food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Ability to interpret verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic sanitation principles.
  • Ability to use and maintain kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds and frequently walk bend stoop pull push and reach.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Must have skill and knowledge to perform tasks involving several procedures and be able to concentrate on work assignments despite interruptions and distractions.
  • A working knowledge of sanitation standards is required as well as knowledge of procedures to prevent contamination.
  • Must know basic food handling techniques personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand written material.
  • Must have knowledge of basic arithmetic such as addition subtraction multiplication division fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apportion weigh and measure foods properly and to use electrical appliances grills stoves ovens and other common kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Ability to operate a cash register run a snack bar and drive a food cart.

Allowances and Differentials
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time regular part-time and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances cost of living (COLA) and differentials will not be paid contingent upon eligibility.
