This vacancy is for a GSStrategic Planning Officer located in the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Coast Guard LANTAREA RESOURCE MANAGEMENT DIVISION -8 in PORTSMOUTH Virginia.


Duties

You will serve as a Strategic Planning Officer and be responsible for serving as the Assistant Division Chief Resource Management Division (LANT-8) Coast Guard Atlantic Area (LANT AREA) Portsmouth VA. LANT AREA is a Major Military Command and Multi-mission Military Installation that directs the conduct of the Coast Guards 11 missions through a complex system of subordinate organizations across a hemispheric Area of Responsibility (AOR) that spans from the Rocky Mountains eastward to the Arabian Gulf.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Leading the Command in the strategic planning required to: determine and communicate the Area Commanders long-term resource requirements to inform the services Planning Programming Budgeting and Execution (PPB&E) process
  • Developing the Commanders strategic planning documents
  • Informing the allocation of operational resources and assets in support of the Commanders Strategic Intent
  • Overseeing the implementation of the strategy and measures performance against desired strategic outcomes
  • Supervising the Divisions Branch Chiefs and serves as the acting Division Chief in his/her absence.

    Qualifications

    To qualify at the GS-14 grade level your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability skill and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

    • Developing the Area Commanders operational strategy and strategic intent
    • Overseeing all personnel administrative resource and budget functions within Division
    • Develops implements and coordinates processes for completing policy and doctrine review
    • Mastery knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques.

If course content cannot be easily identified from the title of the course as listed on your transcript you must submit an official course description from the college/university that reflects the content at the time the course was taken.
