The Fargo VA Health Care System is recruiting for 1 full-time Social Worker for the Caregiver Support Program under the Social Work Service Line.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).
VA Careers - Social Work: Caregiver Support Social Worker Case Manager has the responsibility to provide clinically evidence based services and interventions; Caregiver Veteran and staff education on caregiver issues and community outreach. The Social Worker will function in support of Caregivers Veterans and family members throughout the Medical Center and in the community.
The Caregiver Support Social Worker Case Manager assists the Caregiver Support Coordinator with the development and implementation of the Caregiver Support Program specific to his/her area of assignment and insures compliance and collaboration with the local and VA Central Office Caregiver Support Program initiatives.
The Social Worker participates in direct Caregiver and Veteran contacts to identify and assess caregiver stress/burden and the development and application of direct clinical treatment interventions. The Social Worker provides individual evidenced-based services and support to Caregivers enrolled in the program. The Social Worker may perform home visits when appropriate and necessary to provide counseling and support to Caregivers that are unable to come to the Hospital to access that service. Advises and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams throughout the Medical Center on caregiver issues. Provides education and In-service training to VAMC employees Veterans families and Caregivers. Provides ongoing consultation and support to colleagues regarding caregiver support. Develops and facilitates caregiver support groups (face-to-face or VANTS telephone line) and educational programs. Distributes educational materials provided by VA local state and National Caregiver organizations.
The Social Worker conducts Caregiver and family clinical interventions to facilitate the identification of Caregiver stress psychiatric illness emotional distress and social needs as treatment issues. Professional judgment including the knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior is an inherent competency applied in daily interactions with Caregivers and the Veterans they care for.
The Social Worker provides referrals to VA Medical and Mental Health treatment and to other VA services including VA benefits as well as community-based social services and other non-VA entitlement programs. If appropriate the incumbent provides referrals or consults or in some cases direct admission of a Veteran to other VA programs including but not limited to the Community Residential Care Program Respite Program Community Health Care Coordination Program Hospice Home Based Primary Care Telehealth and Community Nursing Home Program.
The Social Worker has a general knowledge of Veterans benefits and services related to special programs Service Connected Compensation Non-Service Connected Pension. Facilitates referrals based upon Veterans needs and eligibility.
The Caregiver Support Social Worker Case Manager will stay abreast of current Federal and State legislation directed at assisting Caregivers to continue to provide caregiving in an environment that is safe for both themselves and the Veteran.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval award amount (up to $200000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave 13 days of sick leave 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth adoption or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment full time employees with a total family income below $144000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
