Position Summary:
This is a non-exempt position responsible for providing direct care and supervision of the participants planning and implementing recreational activities and coordinating food service. The Activity Aid must be able to plan a wide range of activities that are age appropriate and that meet the needs of the various functioning levels of the participants. This position works in conjunction with other positions at the program using a multidisciplinary approach for the provision of services. All duties and responsibilities must be completed in accordance with agency policy and procedures Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County Adult Care Food Program Broward Meals on Wheels federal state and local laws accreditation standards and other regulatory guidelines. Incumbent in this position demonstrates sensitivity to the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Activity Coordination
- Coordinate and facilitate all social educational recreational and therapeutic activities according to planned monthly activity calendar.
- Coordinate all food service activities including serving meals according to set menus and maintaining inventory of kitchen supplies.
- Responsible for the overall daily maintenance and cleanliness of kitchen dining room and activity areas.
- Daily maintenance of program equipment and setting-up and storing of activity supplies.
- Responsible for leading elderly daily exercise class incorporating techniques such as Yoga Tai Chi etc. that are age appropriate for the frail elderly.
Risk Management and Quality Assurance:
- Completes and submits timely and accurate Significant Incident Reports and any other required documentation as per Catholic Charities guidelines state licensing requirements Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County and Adult Care Food Program requirements Broward Meals on Wheels requirements and COA Standards.
- Participates monthly in the fire drill .
- Participates in the Performance Quality Improvement process.
- Must be available to work beyond your regular schedule in crisis situations or if there is a declared agency emergency.
Additional Duties:
- Participates in all related trainings in-services and staff meetings as required by COA and funding /licensing sources.
- Attends mandatory conferences and trainings as scheduled for professional development.
- Incumbent will comply with all policies procedures and requirements necessary to perform the functions of this position.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demands:
- The work is usually sedentary but may require long periods of standing walking and /or bending and some lifting. The work is mostly performed in a secure office setting.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 order to assist other staff in lifting or transferring seniors if necessary.
Educational & Experiential Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of one-year experience in coordinating and facilitating group activities.
