The Department of Neurology Division of Neuromuscular Disease (NMD) at the University of Rochester Medical Center has an opening for a part-time/full time genetic counselor.
Our clinical programs include but are not limited to Pediatric NMD including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy inherited neuropathy clinic/Charcot Marie Tooth Disease Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic including FSHD muscular dystrophy and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) clinic. Outstanding career development and mentorship opportunities are available with the NMD division which focuses on multidisciplinary care and research. The NMD division is on the leading edge of implementing new emerging therapies including gene therapy for pediatric and adult NMD disorders.
Successful candidates are expected to share the clinical responsibilities of the teaching and supervision of medical students residents and genetic counseling students as expected in the School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Successful candidates are expected to share the clinical responsibilities of the teaching and supervision of genetic counseling students as expected in the School of Medicine and Dentistry along with teaching of residents and fellows in aspects of genetic testing and interpretation of test results. Candidates should have a Masters Degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) Accredited Program as should have passed the ABGC certification exam or plan to take this exam within the next year. Applicants should have excellent communication skills in regard to both patients and colleagues enjoy working with patients of all ages and be capable of utilizing electronic medical record systems.
