Purpose
The Associate Director Financial Sponsors & Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is a senior coverage and execution role responsible for supporting the origination development and management of strategic client relationships across Asia and the Middle East along with execution of deals.
Based in Singapore the Associate Director helps to run the day-to-day desk leading the reporting and execution of workflows helping to drive client engagement co-ordinating complex cross-border transactions and ensuring seamless execution across Scotiabanks global product platform. The position provides significant exposure to senior internal stakeholders and institutional clients with a clear development path toward Director-level responsibility.
The role leans predominantly toward Financial Sponsors (sovereign wealth funds public pension funds asset managers and other select non-banking financial institutions) while retaining selective FIG coverage (banks) each aligned with Scotiabanks regional strategy and core markets in the Americas. The Associate Director helps to ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- As a Relationship Banker he/she will manage the portfolio to help reach pre-established targets in terms of revenues (interest and non-interest) return metrics (RoRWAs) asset growth write-offs credit quality. This will include:
- Preparing the execution of credit submissions: (1) annual reviews of clients with facilities booked in the region and (2) new credit papers for facilities booked in the region to then take forward to present to Global Risk Management GRM / Senior Credit Committees SCC for approvals as needed.
- Collaborate with other RMs and Product Sales globally to optimize overall client relationship.
- Preparing transaction proposals and pitch materials (both internal and external). Coordinate the marketing/delivery of credit and non-credit products to customers by working through/with the specialized product groups.
- Understand how the Banks risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Provide transparent and thoughtful consideration to risk assessments.
- Conduct market research and identification of suitable prospects/opportunities.
- Understand the credit process and works cooperatively with other specialised execution teams GRM and Loan Portfolio Management LPM to ensure profitable business opportunities are approved
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships systems and knowledge. Support new client onboarding (supporting KYC and onboarding teams) relationship deepening and wallet-share expansion across lending capital markets advisory global transaction banking and treasury products.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in line with Scotiabanks risk appetite credit standards and regulatory framework. Manage KYC AML/ATF onboarding and periodic review requirements in co-ordination with KYC Onboarding Compliance Risk Legal and Operations teams.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabanks Values its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational compliance AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
- Ensure buy-in across product partners/ operational areas/ and with peers from other regions.
- Ensure constant communication with the product partners to structure/service solutions that are relevant in the marketplace we operate in and beneficial to the customer.
Dimensions
- Primary coverage of Financial Sponsors and FIG clients based in Asia and selectively the Middle East all with a global cross-product focus.
- Financial Sponsors clients (SWFs Pension Funds Asset Managers and select non-banking financial institutions) are the primary focus across all products globally.
- FIG is centred on existing tier-1/2 Bank client relationships with the emphasis on offering broad range of Global Capital Market Products and Global Transaction Banking products in the region and in our core markets.
- Partnership with various Product Groups within Global Capital Markets Debt Capital Markets Treasury Global Corporate Investment Banking Global Transaction Banking key partners in and key supportive groups including Credit GCM Banking Execution GCM Documentation Risk Legal Operations Compliance KYC/Onboarding.
Education / Experience / Other Information
- Minimum of 8 years related experience focused on executing deals and originating clients
- University graduate with Finance/Economics as a designated specialty
- Ability to develop and grow strong client relationships
- Manage a complex and diverse client portfolio
- Effective communicator polished presentation abilities influencer
- Strong drive for performance with business entrepreneurship qualities
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
