Basic Job Functions:
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore candidates must be able todemonstratethe ability toinitiate lead and uphold safety policies practices procedures and housekeeping standardsat all times.
Reporting to the Safety Managerof a multi-location safety driven scrap metals recycling company the Safety Traineewill work closelywith thesafety department to assist in thedevelopment implementation and management of best-in-class safety and security standard operating procedures as well as multi-dimensional training and awareness programs. Safety is at the core of who weareand we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic leader to carry on our strong culture of safety.
- Audit plants/facilities for safety compliance; follow up to correct deficiencies.
- Work with plant core teams to investigate accidents and incidents.
- Prepare and present monthly/annual training and other monthly safety meeting topics.
- Develop revise and implement site-specific safety policies and safe work procedures.
- Perform air sampling and noise level testing as needed.
- Approve safety supplies and personal protective equipment for use.
- Enforce safety rules and help develop good employee safety attitudes during yard visits.
- Ensure all documentation andrecordkeeping is properly filled out including accident logs and investigation reports.
- Recommend company safety policy changes to corporate staff.
- Serve as first contact for OSHA or other safety regulators.
- Expect to travel frequently throughout region and outside of region.
- Expect to work outside in a highly industrial environment in extreme weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Occupational Health & Safety; Industrial Hygiene; OR have relevant safety experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate verbally and/or through written communication with all levels of personnel within the Company and with FederalStateand local safety regulators.
- Ability to organize daily tasks and to work in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to form strong team relationships with plant managers and supervisors.
- Experience using personal computers in a work environment for spreadsheet and document presentation.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Bi-lingual speaking skills in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
