Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Senior Engineer (DBA) to design operate and optimize large-scale mission-critical PostgreSQL database environments. The role demands deep expertise in PostgreSQL internals high availability replication cloud deployments and performance tuning for high-transaction systems supporting multi-terabyte datasets.
Key Responsibilities
PostgreSQL Administration & Operations

Administer and support enterprise PostgreSQL environments including day-to-day operations monitoring and troubleshooting.

Perform backup restore and point-in-time recovery (PITR) using industry best practices.

Execute minor and major PostgreSQL version upgrades with minimal downtime.
High Availability & Replication
-
Design implement and manage database replication and high-availability solutions using tools such as repmgr pgpool or EFM.

Ensure database resilience failover and disaster recovery readiness.
Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting
-
Diagnose and resolve performance issues related to CPU/load average locks blocking sessions and long-running SQL.

Tune PostgreSQL configuration parameters to optimize throughput latency and stability.

Analyze system catalogs and monitoring data to improve performance and reliability.
Architecture & Scale
-
Support and administer multi-terabyte PostgreSQL databases in high-volume transaction-heavy environments.

Contribute to the design and scaling of large database infrastructures supporting mission-critical applications.
Cloud & Container Platforms

Deploy and manage PostgreSQL in cloud environments such as AWS (RDS or EC2) or GCP.

Support PostgreSQL deployments in Kubernetes or containerized environments.
Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

Perform routine PostgreSQL maintenance tasks including vacuuming reindexing and capacity planning.

Continuously evaluate and adopt new PostgreSQL features tools and best practices.
Collaboration & Communication
-
Work closely with application infrastructure and platform teams to support business objectives.

Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
-
8-15 years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA / Database Engineer.

Strong expertise in PostgreSQL architecture and internals.

Hands-on experience with backup restore PITR and replication.
-
Proven experience performing PostgreSQL major and minor version upgrades.

Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL configuration parameters and system catalogs.

Experience administering multi-terabyte PostgreSQL databases.

Hands-on experience with high-availability solutions (repmgr pgpool EFM).

Experience deploying PostgreSQL in AWS or GCP environments.
-
Working knowledge of Kubernetes or containerization technologies.

Strong analytical troubleshooting and communication skills.
