The Edmonton Valley Zoo is searching for enthusiastic Mechanical Ride Attendants to operate our miniature train conservation carousel specialty shuttles and play space animation. Youll play a key role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our guests while also maintaining our rides and keeping them clean.
What will you do
- Operate rides in a manner that ensures a safe enjoyable experience for guests
- Ensure rides are clean and in good working order through regular inspections and record keeping
- Remain informed on daily zoo programs and special events so as to respond to public inquiries knowledgeably
- Provide accurate information regarding the animal species facts behaviours conservation messages and habitats along the miniature train route
- Provide correct animal and conservation messaging and historical significance to the guests who ride the conservation carousel
- Monitor and animate various play spaces within the Edmonton Valley Zoo
- Independently complete administrative tasks
- Conduct other related duties as required

- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent or higher
- Minimum 16 years of age
Assets:
- Ability to provide animal information to the general public
- Knowledge of endangered and exotic animals
- Experience in mechanical ride operation
- Experience leading cooperative games and working with children
- Ability to fluently speak a language in addition to English
Skills required for success:
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR level C prior to employment. Costs associated with certification are the responsibility of the applicant.
- Hire is dependent upon a Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. Cost associated with a security clearance that is requested by the hiring manager will be reimbursed.
- Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the assigned tasks and duties of this position in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions including allergens such as animals dust pollen wildfire smoke and insects and long period of times standing
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
- Ability to work holidays weekends and evenings. Ability to work 24 hours per week or more is a requirement of this position. Preference will be given to candidates with wider availability
