About Our Opportunity
The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources is seeking a dynamic experienced leader to administer the delivery of the Department of Natural Resources programs and policies.
The Regional Director is accountable for the effective delivery of DNR programs through oversight of more than 200 permanent and seasonal staff a $10M budget and a geographically dispersed operational role enables and integrates core programs such as wildfire response wildlife Crown lands infrastructure surveys OHS and IRM reviews by working across all departmental divisions to ensure consistent efficient and safe service addition to managing frontline operations assets and resources the Regional Director advises the Executive Director and senior leadership on local and emerging issues collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to resolve operational challenges and continually reassesses business practices and policies to ensure they meet current and future client safety and service demands.
Primary Accountabilities
Reporting to the Executive Director Regional Services the Regional Director is based out of Truro and is responsible for participating in the development and implementation of the departments business and work plans through the effective management of human financial and other assets.
The Regional Director will foster a team approach and enlist the cooperation and support of Department staff other provincial municipal and federal government agencies stakeholders and NGOs to deliver a complex and diverse range of programs.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this opportunity you must have a university degree from a recognized school in a relevant field such as natural sciences or have completed a technical program and in addition you hold substantial progressive management experience in a related field. An equivalent level of direct experience in the administration and management of a sizable operational unit involved in resource management would be considered.
This position requires a results-oriented individual with vision a high level of initiative and motivation strategic and innovating thinking commitment to teamwork excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and implement creative solutions to operational problems. Proven leadership abilities will be critical to effectively achieve results in a complex organization subject to change and new challenges influenced by a wide range of internal and external demands. The successful applicant must have effective management skills and abilities with emphasis on human resource and financial management written and verbal communications problem solving conflict resolution time management as well as planning and evaluation and excellent organizational abilities.
The successful candidate must have a valid drivers license and access to a motor vehicle as frequent travel throughout the province is required.
Leadership competencies required at this level of work are Decisiveness Strategic Orientation Developing Others Team Leadership Self-Awareness and Personal Impact Effective Interactive Communication Partnering and Relationship Building and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

An equivalent combination of training education and experience will be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.
Working Conditions
This position occasionally involves varied hours of work to include evenings and weekends to align with supervision of staff.

Pay Grade: EC 14
Salary Range: $4661.12- $5826.41Bi-Weekly
The salary rates include an economic adjustment that has been approved. These rates are effective April 1 2025. Implementation in our HR system will occur on March 5 2026. Until then the current rates will apply. Employees hired during this period will receive retroactive pay adjustments in accordance with the applicable policies.
