The Honolulu Emergency Services Department Health Services Branch (HSB) is seeking aMedical Assistant to join its dedicated medical examination team supporting the Citys pre-employment and periodic health screening program. This position focuses on medical examinations testing vaccinations documentation and customer service. Your work will help ensure City employees are ready to serve Honolulu.

What You Will Do
  • Conducts pre-examination health assessments (e.g. height weight BMI lung capacity hearing blood pressure EKG TB Screening etc.).
  • Administer vaccination injections as part of an immunization program.
  • Operate medical testing equipment (e.g. spirometer audiometer sphygmomanometer vision tester EKG centrifuge etc.).
  • Collect urine drug screening samples.
  • Coordinate and implement preventive and routine maintenance for medical equipment.
  • Work with medical staff and the Medical Records Section to maintain smooth workflow and good customer service during examinations.
Highly Desirable
  • Experience in a clinical screening or medical examination setting.
  • Experience operating medical testing equipment.
  • Experience administering vaccinations or performing TB skin test.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of an accredited medical assisting program.

The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United order to receive credit for the education a FCE must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program evidence of comparability or an original transcript.

APPLICABLE EXPERIENCE/SKILLS NEEDED IN:
  • Performing basic clinical tests and using standard testing equipment
  • Understanding of the general structure and functions of the human body
  • Administering immunizations
  • Managing medical supply inventory
  • Following laws and regulations for issuing and properly disposing of medical or other specialized supplies and equipment

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Successful completion of a training course for Pulmonary Function Testing and Audiometric Testing to satisfy OSHA requirements pertaining to qualification of testing personnel prior to completion of probation.
