POSITION SUMMARY: Support the zoos mission through the development organization and execution of the zoos volunteer program including recruitment training and project oversight. The volunteer coordinator is a cross functional role leading the volunteer program while also supporting guest services operations. This position reports to the Operations Manager.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: - Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Plan and manage multiple tasks schedules and deadlines.
- Leadership skills with ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Strong planning and prioritization skills.
- Adaptable and flexible to support shifting priorities and organizational needs.
- Computer skills including using volunteer management database and Microsoft applications (Word Excel PowerPoint).
- Valid drivers license.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Recruit train and schedule volunteers to support projects and special events.
- Create and manage volunteer schedules and assignments.
- Coordinate and lead projects including but not limited to general maintenance and repairs painting cleaning and landscaping.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records and reports in volunteer database.
- Provide regular updates and reports on volunteer program including hours project and initiatives.
- Collaborate with staff to identify and meet volunteer needs.
- Organize recognition and appreciation programs to boost volunteer retention.
- Maintain volunteer equipment and tool inventory to support project needs.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteer staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Support Guest Services operations performing various roles and functions as needed.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: - Able to work outdoors and on various terrains in all weather conditions.
- Able to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends evenings and holidays.
- Able to read speak and write English in order to fulfill job functions in an understandable way.
- Able to sit stand bend lift and move intermittently throughout the day.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at times not repetitively.
