Description of Work

**This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date listed.

This 11-month EHRA EPS (Exempt Professional Staff)position is a full-time live-in position reporting to the Director of Residential Education Housing and Dining Services.

Residential Education Instructors are provided with an unfurnished addition utilities (electric water and local phone) internet access and access to fitness facilities are complimentary along with one meal a day in the school cafeteria.

NCSSM and the Residential Education Housing and Dining Services Department foster an environment of collaboration across departments and divisions and support community-engaged service and research.

Description of Duties:
Teaching and Curriculum Development

Junior Residential Education Classes:
*Cornerstone Courses: Facilitate student transitions to NCSSM professional communication healthy relationships culture and self-care.
*College and Career Planning: Co-teach with the Counseling Department focusing on preparing students for post-secondary education and careers.

Elective Courses:
*Financial Planning Leadership Public Speaking and Exploring Multicultural America: Teach these elective courses aiming to provide students with essential life skills and a broad understanding of multicultural perspectives.

Curriculum Responsibilities:
*Develop evaluate and revise curricula based on research staff consultation and assessments.
*Utilize evaluations and data to recommend improvements and edits to curricula annually.
*Utilize a wide range of teaching and assessment methods integrating technology.
*Assess student work with clear relevant criteria.
*Maintain and submit accurate reports and grades by published deadlines.
*Communicate with other instructors to share ideas and resources.
*Ensure availability to students outside of classroom hours for additional support.
*Continually evaluate class sessions for improvement opportunities.

Communication:

*Engage in verbal and written communication with students parents and the student support team.

Community Coordinator Duties

Student Support and Community Building:
*Manage and supervise a residence hall community.
*Foster a supportive and cohesive community within the residence hall.
*Handle emergency responses incident management and student discipline.
*Promote wellness programming and community events.

Emergency Response:
*Act as a front-line responder for student and residence hall emergencies.
*Serve in loco parentis for students working closely with counselors academic advisors and parents/guardians.
*Be the primary point of contact for students families and collaborate with faculty and staff to support students.

Housing Responsibilities
*Complete room conditioning reports for all residence halls.
*Assist in coordinating the roommate selection process for juniors and seniors.
*Help with housing-related tasks during the opening and closing of residences.
*Support the Director with contracts for services like food laundry and vending.

Community Engagement and Projects:
*Present at Family Day Discovery Days and Welcome Days.
*Conduct room tours during Welcome Day.
*Participate in institutional committee assignments and campus life activities.
*Lead campus programs and training sessions on student success topics.
*Pursue professional development through coursework conferences and workshops.
*Assist with special projects as directed by the Residential Education and Housing Director.

This position is considered mandatory/essential for the following events: emergency closings; adverse weather; and public health emergencies.

This position does not include any remote work options.

Management Preferences:

  • Demonstrated use of differentiated learning styles (e.g. visual auditory kinesthetic) and how to incorporate them into teaching.

  • Knowledge and understanding of how to design implement and evaluate effective curricula and assessment.

  • Leading and partnering with high school students in a residential setting and building and sustaining a positive and supportive community through effective guidance and influence.

  • Ability to plan and execute campus programs training sessions and events that support student success and community engagement.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty staff students and families.

Minimum Education and Experience
