About this Position

Job Description Summary

This is a senior-level position within the Legal Department for an attorney admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction with 10-15 years of relevant work experience. This position will focus on managing complex litigation and arbitration resolving complex disputes including in connection threatened litigation and arbitration overseeing insurance and securities regulatory matters and managing other major legal risks corporate insurance and executive projects. This role requires significant litigation and regulatory experience deep expertise in financial services law strong business acumen and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing complex litigation and arbitration matters particularly in the securities and insurance areas overseeing alternative dispute resolution processes including mediations handling managing significant regulatory inquiries managing corporate insurance matters (including renewals and claims).

This Associate General Counsel will report to one EVP Deputy General Counsel with dotted line responsibilities to another EVP Deputy General Counsel will oversee significant litigation matters provide legal advice to senior management and business units ensure compliance with the applicable laws and regulations manage corporate insurance matters and support the companys strategic goals

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Litigation Management: Oversee all phases of complex securities and other commercial litigation including case assessment strategy development discovery mediation and trials/final arbitration hearings. Manage a diverse portfolio of cases including securities disputes commercial disputes customer and employee/representative litigation and regulatory enforcement matters.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential significant litigation and regulatory risks arising from business operations and client interactions. Provide Advice to business units to prevent disputes and ensure compliance with regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Internal Investigations: Conduct individually or in conjunction with Deputy General Counsels high-level internal investigations related to allegations of misconduct fraud or regulatory non-compliance.
  • Corporate Insurance: Oversee corporate insurance program (FINPRO and Property and Casualty) including annual renewal of the program and assessment and submission of potential claims.
  • Executive Projects: Assist with executive projects led by Deputy General Counsels including analysis of the issues and preparation of presentation materials including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Management and Training: Provides training guidance or mentoring to team members.

Required Experience Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 10 years of litigation and regulatory experience in the financial services industry.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Minimum of 10 years of litigation and regulatory experience in the financial services -house experience at a financial institution or relevant regulatory agency is highly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of SEC FINRA and state insurance rules and regulations
  • Exceptional investigative negotiation and advocacy skills
  • Strong litigation skills including case strategy procedural knowledge legal research and drafting/editing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to navigate complex legal and regulatory challenges
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to articulate complex legal issues to non-legal stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple matters in a fast-paced dynamically changing environment
  • High ethical standards sound judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Ability to function both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms
