Schedule: 4 12-hour shifts
Shift Time: 7:00 PM 7:00 AM
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday as needed
Role Overview
The Registered Nurse Stepdown/PCU provides intermediate-level nursing care to adult and geriatric patients who require close monitoring and advanced clinical support. This role supports patients transitioning from higher acuity levels or those requiring continuous observation and specialized interventions.
Required Licensure & Certifications
Active New York State RN license (single state; pending licenses not accepted)
BLS (required)
ACLS (required)
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) (required)
Required Clinical Skills
Stepdown / Progressive Care nursing (PCU / IMC / DOU)
Telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation
Identification and management of cardiac dysrhythmias
Rapid Response and Code Team participation
Oxygen delivery systems and non-invasive airway management
Management of cardiac drips (non-titrating)
Blood product administration
Central and peripheral line care and management
IV therapy and phlebotomy
Infection control and isolation precautions
Patient Population & Unit Details
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:45
Population: Adult and Geriatric
Common Diagnoses:
Long-term pulmonary conditions
ENT surgical recovery
Post-surgical patients requiring stepdown-level care
Floating: Required within skill set based on operational needs
Scrub Color: Any combination of navy blue and white
Documentation & Systems
Electronic Charting: Epic experience required
