ChristianaCare is seeking a Diet Clerk I to join our Food & Nutrition Services this role you will support patient nutrition services by ensuring meal selections comply with prescribed diet orders resolving nutritionrelated concerns and maintaining quality control throughout the patient meal service process. This includes overseeing tray accuracy processing diet changes and entering information into the CBORD system to ensure patients receive safe accurate and satisfying meals.
Location: Cecil Campus (Union Hospital)
Shift: 8hour shifts; must be available between 6:00 a.m. 7:30 p.m. weekdays and weeknights
Status: Casual (minimum 16 hours per pay period)
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional patientfocused service with a positive professional demeanor.
- Demonstrate ChristianaCare Core Values of excellence and love in all interactions.
- Review and support patient meal selections to ensure alignment with diet orders.
- Collaborate with dietitians to support and improve patient nutritional status.
- Conduct patient interviews regarding meal satisfaction and nutrition concerns; provide service recovery as needed.
- Support performance improvement initiatives including patient satisfaction surveys.
- Clarify questionable diet orders with nursing staff.
- Oversee tube feeding formula delivery and monitor patient tolerance to supplements.
- Assist with daily workflow assignments for supporting staff.
- Support trayline operations and meal service; document performance issues when necessary.
- Manage CBORD requisitions reports and menu-related adjustments.
- Accurately process inventory orders requisitions and production sheets.
- Maintain current knowledge of food safety handling and storage regulations.
- Train new diet clerks hostesses and trayline personnel.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of postsecondary nutrition coursework or Certified Dietary Manager credential preferred.
- Prior food service or clerical experience in a medical setting preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of nutrition principles and modified diets.
- Knowledge of therapeutic menu adjustments for all age groups.
- Ability to calculate tube feeding formulations.
- Strong communication customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Competence with computers and calculators.
- Ability to analyze dietary habits and provide basic nutrition education.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Requires standing walking bending lifting pushing and other physical activities.
- Work is performed in both patient care areas and office environments with potential exposure to infectious disease.
Hourly Pay Range: $18.19 - $26.37
This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCares good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills relevant experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
