Description

NA Float Pool (nursing students)

  • The Float Pool provides staff the opportunity to train to various departments within Patient Services.
  • Minimum requirements are to work in the Medical/Surgical Tele/Obs and IMCU units.
  • Additional training to CCU Emergency Room and Behavioral Health Services are encouraged but not required.
  • Previous medical/surgical experience required
  • PRN - will need to work a min of 24 hours off shift per 6-week schedule
  • 12-hour day/evening/night
  • Weekend and Holiday as needed
  • Shift and Weekend Differential Eligibility

The nursing attendant functions as an integral part of the patient care team by performing selected patient care treatments and tasks as delegated by licensed nurse. Is accountable for own action in performing duties as assigned and for which he/she is trained. Included is recognition and understanding of the physical cognitive and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served on the unit.

in orientation of new personnel to the unit by being friendly and encouraging and serving as a preceptor or buddy.
and responds to priorities in the patient care process. Readily adapts to changes in workload and responds efficiently.
appropriately to emergency situations.
units needs and promptly answers/responds to patient call lights pages and safety checks.
in post mortem care and transports the body to Morgue on occasion.
external cardiac compressions to patients during Code Blue activities if required.
medications within the hospital as requested and needed according to Hospital policy.


Department: Patient Services - Behavioral Health Services

with application of mechanical restraints at the direction of the RN or completes competency.
intervention for least restrictive alternative to restraints and demonstrates correct performance of de-escalation
to behavioral emergencies.
role and responsibility in reporting physical emotional sexual abuse or neglect.
in Mock medical emergencies and/or RRT (including response to other units/departments as indicated).
glucose meter quality control checks.
ability to provide group leadership in mulieu community meeting activity groups and wrap-up.
and reliably performs safety and security rounds and safe inspection of patient contraband/personal belongings.
Level of Care Policy including responsibility and hand off process for minimum promise of every 15 minute safety checks.

Department: Patient Services - Critical Care Unit

patient ADLs.
patient electrodes and attaches patient to monitor on arrival to unit.
12 lead EKGs.
75 % of age-specific newsletters yearly.
train to all Critical Care Department areas.


Department: Patient Services - Medical / Surgical

urinary catheters according to established procedure.
performs glucometer testing.
activities of daily living and assists with general hygiene.
intravenous catheter according to established procedure.

Department: Patient Services - Progressive Care Unit

patient ADLs.
patient electrodes and attaches patient to monitor on arrival to unit.
12 lead EKGs.
75 % of age-specific newsletters yearly.
trains to all Critical Care Department areas.


Department: Patient Services - Surgical Services

with maintenance of all special supplies and equipment in Surgical Services.
inventory for rapid access.
stacks and coordinates storage of supplies and equipment for rapid access.
valid expiration dates on supplies.
good rapport in work relationships with Surgical Services staff co-workers other hospital personnel physicians and customers.
and maintains respect for rights privacy and confidentiality of others. Respects patient and employee confidentiality at all times.
performs assigned duties including positioning of the surgical patient.
Nursing Department dress code; wears identification/name badge. Adheres to Surgical complex dress code at all times.
removes cleans and stores equipment after patient use for longevity of equipment and cost containment.

positions the patient under the direction and supervision of the RN and/or surgeon.
manages time when clocking in and out of the department.
manages time within the department to ensure the work is completed in a timely manner



Qualifications

Education: Formal Education and Training - High school graduate or the equivalent preferred or a graduate of a nursing educational program.


Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. Previous experience as a Nursing Attendant Nurse Aide or the completion of a nurse aide training program or enrolled in a nursing educational program required.


Certifications/Licensure: Basic Life Support (BLS)
