PURPOSE

This position is responsible for modifying or reducing health-related barriers to learning of individual students and by promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment planning intervention and evaluation management and/or referral activities.
Serves as the direct link between physicians families and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care of students.
Provides relevant instruction counseling and guidance to students parents staff and others concerning health-related issues.
Upholds professional standards the state Nurse Practice Act and other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing practice.

Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Coordinator of Nurses and Building Administrator

Supervises: Health Aide (if applicable)

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing/ Missouri registered professional nurse license; current certification in CPR/AED; At least two (2) years of experience.

Preferred: Bachelors in Science Nursing

Physical Demands: Frequently stand stoop bend and kneel; Read handwritten or printed material; Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; Grasp hold and demonstrate finger dexterity; Reach and raise arms above shoulders and head; Must have both close and distance vision.
