The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Qualified Therapeutic Radiographer

The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies of The University of Edinburgh based on the Easter Bush Campus on the South side of Edinburgh is a leading centre of clinical excellence welfare and research for animals. The clinical unit includes the Riddel Swan Cancer Centre a purpose built cancer facility housing state-of-the art imaging and radiotherapy facilities (Varian Medical Systems and a VitalBeam linear accelerator). The Riddel Swan Cancer Centre is the only centre in the UK offering IMRT and VMAT for pets and it is a reference in the country and in Europe in Veterinary Radiation Oncology.

We are seeking a qualified therapeutic radiographer to join our Radiation Oncology Service which currently includes two boarded veterinary radiation oncologists a therapeutic radiographer and rotating veterinary trainees veterinary anaesthetists and veterinary nurses.

The post holder would be expected to work alongside clinicians nurses and the other therapeutic radiographer while treating veterinary cancer patients including dogs cats rabbits and occasionally other domestic or exotic animals. The main aim of the post holder would be to operate the linear accelerator while delivering photons or electrons for treatment and to assist during CT-scan for treatment planning (positioning designing of immobilization devices) and with appropriate treatment planning. You will work both in a team and independently to organise and prioritise daily/weekly workload and will contribute to teaching veterinary students in some aspects of Radiation Oncology.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • An interest in teaching and animals and ideally substantial experience as a therapeutic radiographer preferentially familiar to operating a Vital beam linear accelerator.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound knowledge of radiation protection.
  • Animal handling skills are desirable willingness to work with animals is essential.

Appropriate training will be provided where necessary in particular animal handling.
