About the role

Tenure: Voluntary remunerated committee appointment (three-year term)

Location: Victoria (meetings held online)

The Victorian Branch of RANZCP is seeking a Community Member with a lived and/or living experience of receiving psychiatric care in Victoria to join the Branch Committee. The role of this Committee is to monitor consider and advise on issues affecting psychiatry policy practice and training specific to Victoria. The Community Member will contribute their lived expertise from a consumer perspective to inform the Branchs advocacy helping to shape systemic improvements and strengthen the integration of lived experience into psychiatry and mental health reform.

Community Members are not expected to represent all consumers; rather they are invited to share their own lived expertise in support of the work of the College and the Victorian Branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively contribute to Victorian Branch committee meetings
  • Provide Lived Experience informed expertise from a Consumer perspective
  • Review meeting papers and provide written input between meetings as required
  • Contribute to discussions that inform Branch activities priorities and advice
  • Work collaboratively with committee members the Chair and RANZCP staff
  • Adhere to RANZCP policies including confidentiality and conflict of interest requirements

What youll bring

  • Lived and/or Living Experience as a Consumer of mental health services or other settings relevant to psychiatry in Victoria.
  • Residence in Victoria Australia.
  • An interest in contributing to the improvement of psychiatry training policy and practice.
  • Ability to reflect on and communicate Lived Experience expertise in a way that informs professional discussions and improvements to the Branch Committees work.
  • Ability to attend scheduled meetings with an average commitment of approximately two hours per month.
  • Alignment with RANZCP values and commitment to confidentiality
  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship or valid Australian work rights
  • To maintain the independence of the Community Member role current employees of RANZCP are not eligible to apply

(Previous committee experience is welcome but not required.)
