Position Overview

The Senior Engineer Mining is key role in the Mine Technical Services Department. With the Senior Engineer Geotech as a cross shift on a 2-week in 2-week out rotation they report to the Sr Manager Technical Services and Projects. This team is responsible for all operational planning for the underground and remaining open pit from daily weekly through to 3-month plans while working to support the strategic planning and other site-based teams. The two Senior Engineers carry the authority and responsibilities of superintendents and cover for the Sr Manager when required.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Felt Safety Leadership as part of your daily work;
  • Ensuring department deliverables are completed and communicated on time and to best standards
    • 12-week plans and weekly mine plans including documentation of assumptions sensitivities risks opportunities and recommendations.
    • Weekly blend plans
    • Weekly plan reconciliation reviews
  • Completing month end actuals reconciliation reports and corporate reporting as required;
  • Providing ventilation engineering support including simulations and network designs;
  • Developing risk assessed and optimized underground mine designs including ramps raises and electrical dewatering and other services infrastructure;
  • Completing regular field trips to assess compliance to plan and adherence to safety standards;
  • Contributing to underground and surface mine reclamation projects;
  • Establishing or assisting in development of JHAs and SOPs;
  • Providing coaching and mentorship to EITs and interns;
  • Providing technical guidance to underground surveyors mining technicians drill & blast and planning engineers.
  • Maintaining and fostering company contractor relations; and
  • Willingness to become a member of the mine rescue team highly desirable.
  • Managing the team roster to maintain staffing balance.

Education/Experience

  • Degree in Mining Engineering complimented with 7 years of mining engineering experience at an underground operation. Time spent in a supervisory or mentorship role a plus; Registration as a within Canada (preferably Northwest Territories);
  • Exposure to surface mining.
  • NWT Underground supervisor level 2 certificate or equivalent.
  • Mine rescue team experience.
  • Proven experience in multiple areas including but not limited to mine design scheduling ventilation design and drill & blast;
  • Proficiency with relevant software programs (i.e. MS Office Suite Ventsim AutoCAD Deswik or Vulcan OPDS);
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills (English);
  • Leadership planning and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of general mining safety requirements and procedures;
  • Proven time management and decision-making skills;
  • Working knowledge of SAP would be an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve best-in-class efficiency and productivity; and
  • Class 5 drivers license is required.
  • Experience working in the mining industry northern Canada and an understanding of the northern regulatory environment is preferred

Additional Information

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary Yellowknife and other northern fly points.
