Position Summary
The Laundry Attendant in a Low Demand Shelter is a critical part of shelter Operations by ensuring dignity and cleanliness for Shelter participants. The Laundry Attendant is responsible for the washing drying and distribution of all Housing and Shelter programs laundry needs.
Some of the duties include:
- Receive all laundry bags from the exterior of laundry room upon the start of each shift
- Wash and dry all provided laundry on scheduled days and as needed or requested by Program or Operations staff
- Ensure all Emergency and Overflow laundry linens (sheets blankets towels etc.) are tracked and laundered
- Ensure sorted laundry is returned to the community representative for accurate re-distribution
- Wash all clothing donations as they come into the laundry room
- Assist in bed bug protocols
- Communicate with Program and Operations staff about receipt and distribution of laundry as it pertains to issues that may arise
- Ensure laundry is returned to proper participants
- Count sort document all received laundry bags from communities within shelter
- Submit daily log and laundry counts to Shift Supervisor for data and tracking
- Promptly report equipment malfunctions
- Maintain the overall cleanliness of the Laundry Room (washers dryers air handler etc.)
- Observe and comply to fire and shelter safety measures and procedures
- Cross train across kitchen mail and other shelter roles as needed
- Works cooperatively with all staff members of the shelter arriving to work on time and transitioning shift control appropriately for all scheduled shifts
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent; some experience working with the homeless chemically dependent or mentally disabled individuals etc. a plus. Familiarity with industrial washing machines dryers and cleaning chemicals required. Prior experience in hospitality housekeeping or laundry services preferred.
