Position Overview
The Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse provides specialized pre-operative and post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients in a high-acuity recovery setting. This role requires strong pediatric critical care experience and the ability to function independently with minimal orientation.
Shift & Scheduling Details
Combination of day and evening shifts within the same pay period
8 shifts every 2 weeks (10-hour shifts)
Some weekend coverage required
No block scheduling
Key Responsibilities
Deliver safe high-quality nursing care to pediatric patients in the PACU setting
Perform comprehensive nursing assessments in an acute care environment
Monitor post-anesthesia recovery and respond to changes in patient condition
Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care with minimal supervision
Communicate effectively with physicians families and interdisciplinary teams
Document care accurately according to professional and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
Active New York State RN license
BLS certification (must be current and maintain recertification)
Minimum 1.5 years of recent acute care experience (within the past 2 years)
Pediatric critical care experience required
PACU experience preferred
Experience in hospitals of equal or greater size or trauma center environments (required for travelers)
Preferred Skills & Experience
EPIC Electronic Medical Records experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced pediatric recovery environment
