Position Summary / Career Interest:
Performs dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease for patients
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Conducts patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions review of the health history oral cancer screening head and neck inspection.
- Removes calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth and beneath gum margins.
- Feels and visually examines gums to locate any sores recessed gums or any sign of gum disease or oral cancers.
- Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays).
- Applies preventive materials to the teeth (e.g. sealants and fluorides).
- Charts condition of teeth and gums for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.
- Teaches patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g. tooth brushing flossing and nutritional counseling).
- Counsels patients about good nutrition and its impact on oral health.
- Makes impressions of patients teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs.
- Performs documentation and other office activities.
- Secondary Responsibilities to back up the dental assistants and or the reception desk to assure continuity of patient care and patient Serves all internal and external customers by providing high quality care with courtesy and compassion.
- Demonstrates accountability for own actions and decisions.
- Follows policies procedures and standards; complies with Corporate Responsibility Program.
- Assumes responsibility for risk and safety issues associated with position.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Manages costs of supplies equipment and staff.
- Takes responsibility for own learning and development needs.
- Participates as a member of a team to achieve organizational goals.
- Brings ideas/concerns to supervisor; participates in department decision-making.
- Must be able to perform the professional clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
