Transplant surgeries from donors cannot be predicted in advance this position requires a high degree of schedule flexibility. While the team strives to perform procedures during standard operating hours whenever possible Surgical Technologists on the Transplant Team must be prepared to support cases that may arise during evenings nights or weekends.

Pay Range
$38.20 - $57.30Major Responsibilities:
Provide first or second assisting for specified surgical procedures as needed and assigned for patients of all ages:
Incises tissue.
Provides surgical field exposure by providing retraction.
Assists with maintaining a dry surgical field-hemostasis.
Clamps cauterizes and/or ligates bleeders.
Assists with the identification of anatomical structures.
Utilizes surgical instruments for the purpose they were intended.
Assists with or performs wound closure.
Assists with or applies skin sutures staples.
Assists with or applies dressings.
Provides assistance in preparation and maintenance of sterile O.R. environment utilizing aseptic techniques.
Performs duties in the scrub role as assigned:
Completely prepares sterile field in a timely manner.
Performs surgical draping of incision site on patients of all ages.
Complies with departmental policy and procedures regarding specimens counts and disposition of contaminated instruments.
Maintains sterile field and boundaries prior to and during procedure.
Acts as preceptor sharing knowledge in a supportive/educational manner.
Maintains on-call availability.
Assists in emergency situations as assigned.
Maintains a safe work environment according to regulatory agency standards.
Maintains educational records and timecard.
Maintains competencies.
Responsible for the preparation of the surgical field and supplies/instruments delivered to the field:
Assists in opening sterile supplies and instruments.
Efficiently utilizes supplies to avoid waste and decrease costs.
Assists with patients of all ages with skim preparation i.e. shave scrub painter per MD preference.
Verifies instrument/supply/equipment available and ready per physician preference card.
Verifies specific needs of physician by completely reading scrub tips.
Assists with positioning of the surgical patient of all ages as directed by the circulating nurse.
Assists with clean-up and turnover upon completion of case

Assists with maintaining goals of Surgical Services and Advocate.
Shares clinical and professional knowledge in a supportive/educational manner.
Demonstrates self-direction in utilizing work time appropriately.

Responsible for maintenance of robotic knowledge:
Assist in Robotic Surgery.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Graduation from and accredited surgical assistance program required. Acquires continuing education annually to maintain current competence and credentials as required.
Certification / License
Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) credential required.
Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required.
Current CST Certification required.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required:
Good communication skills -ability to independently perform scrub duties
Current professional state licensure under IDFPR
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
May be exposed to body fluids waste and chemicals anesthesia gases hazardous materials radiation and life-threatening diseases.
This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated i.e. understand child growth and development normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to lift 50 pounds ability to cooperate and work well with others
Ability to communicate with mask on and not facing others
Ability to work in a stressful changing environment
Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
Ability to respond to fire and other codes (e.g. evacuate patients)
Ability to work designated shifts including weekends and holidays
Ability to assume on-call responsibility

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds or when patient is unable to assist with the lift patient handling equipment is expected to be used with at least one other associate when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
