DEPARTMENT: Employment Language and Social Enterprise
POSITION FUNCTION:
- Hiring for 2 general ESL positions and 2 IELTS prep & CELPIP prep positions
- Under the direction of the business manager instructors will lead student-centred English classes for a diverse clientele of adult learners planning learning objectives and lesson plans based on students needs and level.
- Instructors are responsible for planning and delivering practical engaging English lessons creating a welcoming and encouraging class environment assessing and evaluating student progress maintaining attendance records and other administrative duties as required.
- Working with the business manager to plan and develop lesson content for special projects.
- Providing substitute teacher relief for Engage instructors as availability permits.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of language programming issues for adults; working knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks
- Bachelors Degree and TESL Canada recognized certificate or an equivalent combination of education training and experience
- At least 2 years experience in ESL instruction within language schools settlement and/or community based English programs; developing curriculum materials and instructing ESL to adults; experience in working with individuals from a diverse background; experience teaching for IELTS and/or CELPIP preparation and/or experience teaching lower levels.
- Deliver student-centered lessons consistent with the program mandate using the CLB to inform planning
- Use current and appropriate technology and tools to support students language learning and/or real-life skills
- Facilitate English language learner involvement in the community by incorporating local community resources and materials in lessons and by creating assignments that encourage learners to interact in real-world situations
- Sensitive to and understanding of the needs of adult language learners and refer students to appropriate resources in response to students needs
- Maintain and provide statistics on participant progress in the format prescribed department procedures
- Highly organized tactful patient and flexible with excellent communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Cultural sensitivity
- Criminal Record Check is required
COMPENSATION: $31.26 - $34.56 per hour
HOURS: This program operates 6-week classes followed by a 1-week hiatus seven times throughout the calendar year. The expected start date for this position is April 20 2026.
4 positions available 1 Beginner ESL (CLB 2-3) Instructor 1 Intermediate ESL (CLB 4-5) Instructor 1 IELTS Prep Instructor and 1 CELPIP Prep instructor Classes take place in the evening from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Teachers are paid an additional 25% for prep. Candidates must be able to commute to the office to deliver in-person classes.
BENEFITS:
A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
