Veterinary Pathologist

• Provide pathology services to support animal studies such as provide pathology and histology support by performing necropsies and assessing histologic analyses to support research efforts.
• Responsible for postmortem examination (necropsy) in the BSL-4 containment laboratory and documentation of gross observations/diagnoses in support of animal studies.
• Provides expertise in the following areas: necropsy (examination data capture and reporting); histopathology (examination data capture and reporting); histology/immunohistochemistry lab operations; histomorphometry operations/analysis; and digital pathology operations/services.
• Works with research staff to complete necropsies and sample analyses.
• Performs and facilitates gross and histologic examination of samples collected during necropsies including special stains immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization; develops comprehensive written reports.
• Additional duties include supporting mission priorities in laboratory setting to complete research studies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Board certified Veterinary Pathologist (DVM ACVP); with PhD preferred.
• Previous recent biocontainment (BSL-3 or BSL-4) experience required; BSL-4 experience preferred.

• Experience in the following areas: necropsy histopathology histology/immunohistochemistry and digital pathology.

• Strong communication skills.

• Will be required to be in contact with small animals (rabbits ferrets rodents etc.) nonhuman primates (macaques African green monkeys marmosets etc.) nonhuman primate tissues human blood and other body fluids and radiation.
• Will have contact with Rabies virus SIV Varicella virus and Orthopox virus (wild and attenuated).
• Will work with corrosive substances plastics and solvents.
• Required to have contact with the following Tier 1 Select Agents: Ebola Virus Monkeypox virus most risk group 4 (BSL4) select agent viruses and some risk group 3 (BSL3) select agent viruses.
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves face shields/goggles safety glasses lab coat ear plugs/muffs clean room uniform impervious suit disposable dust or surgical mask and respirators (disposable respirator masks N P or R95 99 or 100; powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR); and positive-pressure suits).
