Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant (Autism Program)
Location: Ashburn VA 20147
Pay Rate: $24/hour
Schedule: MondayFriday 8:50 AM 3:40 PM
Job Summary
A school-based education program is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher Assistant to support a Grades 35 Autism Program. This role assists the classroom teacher in delivering individualized structured instruction and behavioral support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Teacher Assistant plays an essential role in creating a safe inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes academic achievement communication skills and social-emotional development.
Key Responsibilities
Provide instructional and behavioral support to students in a Grades 35 Autism classroom under the direction of the Special Education Teacher
Assist with implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans
Support students with academic activities classroom routines transitions and small-group instruction
Reinforce positive behaviors using established behavioral strategies (e.g. ABA-informed practices visual schedules)
Assist students with communication social skills development and emotional regulation
Help maintain a structured calm and safe classroom environment
Document student progress and behavioral observations as directed
Support activities of daily living when applicable
Collaborate with teachers therapists and school staff to support student goals
Follow all school policies related to safety confidentiality and student care
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or special needs (preferred)
Ability to consistently follow instructional plans and behavioral strategies
Strong communication patience and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively within a classroom and multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a school-based special education or autism program
Coursework or training in special education child development or behavioral support
Experience supporting elementary-aged students (Grades 35)
Work Environment
School-based classroom setting
Requires standing walking and active engagement throughout the school day
May involve supporting students with physical behavioral or sensory needs
