The Assistant Director for Athletic Communications reports to the Director of Communications and Sports Information and assists with the day-to-day operations of the Emory University Athletic Communications Office. Provides external and internal communications to support and publicize the Emory University athletic programs and their student-athletes; directs social media strategy for assigned sports and assists with the social media efforts for the department; maintains the press table and statistical crews during events writes stories and updates results on deadline at the conclusion and posts to website and social media platforms. Directs the video efforts of the department including webcasting of various home events interviews with student-athletes and coaches and highlight videos; supervises graduate assistant interns and student workers. Performs additional duties assigned by the Director of Communications and Sports Information. This position is a full-time 12-month professional staff member within the Department of Athletics. Some holiday evening and weekend work is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as the primary athletic communications contact for sports assigned by the Director of Communications and Sports Information; assists in the overall communication efforts for all 19 varsity programs sponsored by Emory University.
- Produces daily editorial content and design elements for ; creates game stories and updates statistics from all contests immediately following the conclusion of each event.
- Coordinates and leads the strategic use of social media to promote Emory University Athletics; directs the activities of the Departments Instagram Twitter Facebook YouTube and other social media accounts.
- Assists with a comprehensive and timely presence on the internet including website maintenance social media graphic design and video editing.
- Assists with compiling University Athletic Association and NCAA reports.
- Assists with special events such as the year-end athletic awards banquet and Emory Athletics Hall of Fame.
- Nominates student-athletes and coaches for conference regional and national awards. -
- Ensures appropriate staffing for home events of assigned sports including table and statistical crews as well as video production team.
- Produces game programs and other publications for a variety of home events.
- Assists in the hiring and supervision of a graduate assistant interns and work-study staff.
- Assists with photography assignments and helps maintain the departments photo database. - Develops contacts with media on a local regional and national level.
- Oversees the video efforts of the department including webcasting of various home events through the FloSports platforms as well as using Boxcast Pixellot Track Tennis interviews with student-athletes and coaches and highlight videos.
- Compiles researches and updates record books and archives for assigned athletic programs.
- Maintains current knowledge of the latest technology trends in the field; adopts and promotes changes when they become available; participates in continuing education as necessary; engages in professional and industry development to maximize social media content.
- Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelors degree in journalism communications public relations sports administration or a related field and three years of experience working in a college sports information or professional sports media relations office OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- Proficient with computer software programs including but not limited to Photoshop InDesign statistical programs (NCAA Genius stat crew PrestoStats) and web publishing.
- Well-versed in creating and applying content to social media platforms. Knowledgeable of video streaming platforms including but not limited to FloSports Boxcast Pixellot Track Tennis.
- Ability to use good judgement and handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion. Excellent organizational and customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.

- This position is a full-time 12-month professional staff member within the Department of Athletics. Some holiday evening and weekend work is required.
