About the role
Reporting to theCorporate Affairs Directorthe Senior Media Relations Manager willdevelop anddeliver the global mediarelations strategy andexecute high-impact communications campaigns that support the company purposenarrativeand values. This role would help build DS Smiths brand reputation amongst key target stakeholders including potential customers and embed consistentperformancemeasurement across all markets.
You will be responsible forhandling media enquiries and escalating whereappropriate as well as providing senior counsel on media handling for interview and briefing opportunities as wellas potentialissues. You will create media-facing materials including press releases and reactive statements as well as securing media briefings for DS Smith executives and preparing briefing materials.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and own comprehensive media strategy for EMEA that supports the businesss goals
Design and implement a key KPI framework across divisions and regions
Deliver robust media monitoring and performance reporting to assess against strategic goals identify gaps and course correct
Build strong relationships with target media understanding individual journalist agendas to facilitate in-depth story tailoring with a focus on tier 1 media across Europe
Undertake proactive story placement through selling-in news and campaign content as well as maximising editorial opportunities aligned with the businesss 80/20 priorities
Lead the development and delivery of campaigns from the insights that underpin the campaign strategy to the creative content that brings it to life
Provide structured and ad hoc support to EMEA subregions to enable consistent media performance aligned to strategy
Adopt a proactive approach to storytelling about the company in the media recognising what is both newsworthy and advances the companys strategic objectives
Develop impactful and media-worthy press materials and content including press releases and digital content
Provide support and counsel on issues and crises management including reactive statement development Q&A and recommended positions.
About You
Degree level education with a preference for graduates of language communications or social sciences courses
An experienced media operative with proven experience in issues management including navigating sensitive or high-risk situations
Demonstrated record of providing media support to a business that experienced significant change (e.g. restructuring M&A leadership change)
Strong relationships across tier one media
Experience ofdelivering media relations and executing media campaigns managing a varied project portfolio with many concurrent activities
Experience inadvisingsenior leaders on theappropriate useofmedia relationsthat add business value acting as a trusted advisor
Proventrack recordof collaborative working and building strong relationshipsnegotiatingand influencing effectively to achieve business goals
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with sensitivity to the audience and medium in use and the ability to distil complex subjects into simplified messages.
