Mainframe Application Developer & Support Engineer (COBOL)

What success looks like in this role:

This is a fulltime permanent position for a Mainframe Application Developer & Support Engineer (COBOL) in a hybrid working model requiring onsite attendance at least three days per week in Milton Keynes.

We partner with major organisations across Financial Services Communications Media Commercial Transportation and the Public Sector delivering a broad portfolio of business solutionsincluding consulting systems integration outsourcing network services security and enterpriseclass technologies.

Within our Managed Application Services function we provide 24/7 support for missioncritical applications. We are now seeking a skilled professional to join the team responsible for supporting and enhancing CommandandControl services for our client. This role focuses primarily on the mainframe component of the solution providing daytoday operational support alongside software enhancements defined by the client.

Key Responsibilities

Identify issues and propose effective resolutions to support end users
Analyse and resolve problems relating to interfaces across multiple system components
Apply creativity and technical insight to deliver enhancements and new areas of functionality

You will be successful in this role if you have:

MustHave:
Strong experience in COBOL and mainframe application development
Experience of OS2200 Unisys mainframe technology
Proven background in supporting and maintaining mainframe operational systems
Solid understanding of batch processing JCL and mainframe utilities
Strong SQL or database scripting knowledge (mainframe or equivalent)
Experience debugging troubleshooting and analysing complex system interactions
Familiarity with structured development practices and Agile methodologies
Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (must meet residency requirements)
Preferred:
Experience working within largescale missioncritical environments
Exposure to integration between mainframe and distributed systems
Understanding of modern development and support frameworks
Ability to mentor junior team members and support continuous improvement
Experience in Public Safety/Emergency Services would be highly advantageous
Additional Information
This is a fulltime permanent role.
You will be required to attend our site at least three days per week and therefore must live within commutable distance from Milton Keynes.
Candidates must have resided in the UK for a minimum of three years to qualify for security clearance. This requirement is nonnegotiable. You must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for this role.
