About the organisation

He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Māori organisation who have been supporting individuals and the community for over 30 years.

About the role

We are looking for a community focussed nurse who is passionate about health education and supporting whānau to decode and demystify long-term health concerns and improve health across a wide continuum.

This could include but is not limited to: Mental Health & Addictions Physical Health and Social Wellbeing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of conditions and circumstances that impact on long-term health including but not limited to diabetes COPD asthma heart failure nutrition fall prevention and screening etc.

The role will work within our GP clinic and collaborate with our social service teams who share a collective passion for our community their mahi and the organisation. This is new opportunity to work as a nurse in our community as we realign our services to meet the needs of our communities to build stronger and better health outcomes for whānau.

This is a full-time permanent position based in Wainoni Ōtautahi.

Skills and experience

  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse and hold current Nursing council of New Zealand practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a Māori organisation/content and be able to meet the tikanga/kawa requirements.
  • A high standard of professionalism and work ethic
  • Outstanding motivational and communication skills
  • An ability to contribute positively within a team
