The Position
The Opportunity:
The Summer at Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience. Interns enjoy opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees throughout our organization. Additionally we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization.
As a Bioinformatics Software Engineering intern you will be part of a team of forward-thinking scientists engineers and researchers building production-grade bioinformatics software to extract meaningful insights from genomic data using cutting-edge bioinformatics algorithms.
This interdisciplinary internship provides a unique chance to leverage your expertise in both bioinformatics and computer science and bridge the gap between academic research and industry application. You will directly contribute to the development of high-performance and scalable software solutions that will significantly impact life science fields including next-generation sequencing diagnostics and precision medicine.
Who You Are:
Must be currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Bioinformatics Computational Biology Computer Science Mathematics Statistics Bioengineering or related fields.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Familiarity with Unix/Linux based environments and command-line tools.
Basic knowledge of genome bioinformatics and DNA sequencing.
Experience with popular programming languages used in bioinformatics such as Python and C/C.
Experience with version control systems like Git.
Preferred:
Experience with parallel programming systems programming and performance optimization. C experience is preferred.
Experience with bioinformatics tools and libraries used in next-generation-sequencing (NGS) data analysis.
Experience building or running bioinformatics algorithms or pipelines.
Additional information:
Location: Hybrid Based in Mississauga (majority of days in the office)
Duration: This position is a 4 -month work term full-time (35 hours per week) expected to start in May 2026.
Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week).
