Mental Health Technician (MHT) Responsibilities

• Support a safe structured and therapeutic environment on the behavioral health / psychiatric unit

• Perform patient observation and routine safety rounds as assigned
• Assist with basic patient care needs (ADLs) including hygiene mobility and meal support when appropriate
• Escort patients to groups activities meals and appointments
• Observe patient behavior mood and safety concerns and report changes to the clinical team
• Support de-escalation efforts and follow unit protocols during behavioral emergencies
• Assist nurses and facility staff with non-licensed tasks as directed
• Complete required documentation (rounding logs behavior notes incident reports etc.)
• Provide respectful professional communication with patients families and facility staff

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required

• Ability to work in a fast-paced behavioral health / psychiatric care environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a care team
• Ability to stand walk bend and assist with patient mobility during the shift
• Behavioral health psychiatric or inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred
• Candidates may qualify with a CNA PCT or other relevant healthcare certifications/training including (but not limited to): EMT Medical Assistant or prior Behavioral Health Technician / Mental Health Technician experience
• BLS/CPR and CPI/Nonviolent Crisis Intervention preferred (or willingness to obtain based on facility requirements)
