Seeking an Analytical Chemistry Lab Tech I - Night Shift (12-hour Pitman schedule starting at 6:45pm to 6:45am)
In this position you select the appropriate programs and procedures for routine analytical work determine whether equipment issues can be resolved through simple repairs or need to be escalated to technical staff and remain vigilant in identifying safety hazards and notifying the proper personnel. You manage and prioritize daily tasks according to company needs interpret test results to keep production informed of any issues and serve as the primary point of contact between the laboratory and manufacturing during weekends and holidays to ensure consistent communication and workflow
Job Duties:
- Operation maintenance and performance of SPC for one major analytical instrument (GFAAS IC ICP-MS FTIR UV/Vis).
- Perform routine sample preparation and analysis.
- Log-in organize and check samples on a daily basis informing engineer or chemist of problems.
- Compile data & calculate results for analysis of routine samples.
- Update databases with routine monitoring results.
- Prepare solutions and analytical supplies for routine tests.
- Document and report all work in notebooks.
- Determine if problem with instrumentation refer to level II or III Technician or Chemist.
- Order supplies from warehouse and from outside vendors.
- Recommend changes that would improve safety and performance.
- Work safely with hazardous chemicals.
- Work with extreme care in sample analysis to avoid contamination.
- Accept direction willingly from chemists and lab supervisor.
- Communicate results of analysis to internal customers.
- Attend technical seminars.
- Responsible for understanding the hazards in the workplace including hazardous waste handling and awareness. Required to remain up to date on applicable trainings.
Position Requirements:
Requires a High School diploma or GED along with one to two years of experience working in a laboratory or a related industry. Candidates should be proficient with word processing spreadsheet and database software and possess a solid understanding of basic mathematics and the chemicals commonly used in laboratory environments. Experience operating and maintaining analytical instrumentssuch as GFAAS IC ICPâMS UV/Vis or FTIRis preferred as is familiarity with SPC control charting. Applicants should have good mechanical aptitude to support equipment operation and maintenance. Strong verbal and written English skills are essential. Travel may be required for training.
