Staff Accountant
Type: In-Office Full-Time / Temp-to-Perm (3 to 6 months temporary with possibility to move permanent)

This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys variety in their work and wants to play a critical role supporting payroll accuracy vendor relationships and financial integrity in a unionized fast-paced environment.
As the Staff Accountant you will play a key role in supporting payroll (union) accounts payable and general accounting functions while ensuring compliance accuracy and strong internal controls.
Process vendor invoices using full three-way matching ensuring approvals funding and receiving documentation are complete.
Maintain and update the ERP vendor master working closely with the Controller and Purchasing to pursue early payment discounts.
Process AP batches and payments on a just-in-time basis ensuring vendors are paid within agreed terms.
Review vendor statements investigate discrepancies and escalate issues as required.
Ensure compliance with dual-approval and payment controls while remaining vigilant against fraud phishing and cybersecurity risks.
Support general accounting activities including bank reconciliations cash receipts intercompany transactions fixed assets account reconciliations and journal entries.
Participate in cross-training and provide backup coverage within the accounting team to support business continuity.
Perform accurate and timely end-to-end payroll processing for all employees.
Set up and maintain employee records across ERP ADP and benefits platforms; process new hires changes and terminations.
Receive validate and process daily timesheets; support the transition to electronic time entry systems.
Balance and validate weekly or bi-weekly time entries and process payroll through ERP and ADP WFN.
Process payments for DSPs and subcontractors following management approval.
Contribute to payroll process improvements efficiency initiatives and ongoing compliance efforts.
Prepare and process T4s T2200s taxable benefits garnishments EHT WCB and union payroll submissions.
Complete all required year-end filings with regulatory agencies within prescribed deadlines.
Maintain strict payroll data security and confidentiality at all times.
Prepare payroll and benefits reports for internal management and external auditors.
Conduct internal audits to ensure payroll accuracy and legislative compliance.
Support external audits and respond to payroll- and benefits-related information requests.
To succeed in this role candidates should demonstrate the following:
3-5 years of full-cycle in-house payroll experience.
Prior experience processing union payroll is an asset.
Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is a strong asset.
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation tax regulations and employment standards.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including formulas Pivot Tables and data imports/exports.
Experience working with ERP systems and ADP platforms is preferred.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
High attention to detail and accuracy supported by solid analytical skills.
Self-motivated able to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of the organization.
Demonstrates sound judgment discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
