Job Summary
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform thorough eye exams to assess visual acuity evaluate eye health and detect eye diseases/abnormalities using diagnostic tools (visual acuity tests refraction tests tonometry slit-lamp etc.).
- Prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses for refractive errors (nearsightedness farsightedness astigmatism) based on individual needs.
- Diagnose and manage conditions like dry eye conjunctivitis glaucoma cataracts and diabetic retinopathy. Provide treatment prescribe medications or refer patients to ophthalmologists if required.
- Help manage coordination issues focusing difficulties and binocular vision disorders through vision therapy or other interventions.
- Provide evaluations before and after surgeries (cataract LASIK refractive) monitor healing manage complications and ensure positive outcomes.
- Conduct eye exams for infants children and teenagers; diagnose/manage pediatric conditions like amblyopia and strabismus; guide visual development and eyewear use.
- Work with ophthalmologists primary care doctors and opticians for comprehensive patient care and specialized treatments.
- Educate patients on eye care hygiene preventive measures eyewear care and lifestyle habits to protect vision.
Requirements
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school.
- Completion of four years of postgraduate study after a bachelors degree.
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic tools eye diseases corrective lenses and treatment procedures.
- Ability to collaborate with other healthcare professionals for integrated patient care.
- Good communication skills for patient education and counseling.
