Railserve is a leading provider of in-plant rail switching transloading and material handling services operating at over 75 locations in North America. We use our own locomotives and employees to safely move railcars within industrial manufacturing and production plants. But were not just rail car movers; we also provide a number of other services which include: rail car loading rail car unloading track maintenance inspection or repair and many others.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains a safe working environment by making sure all employees understand and follow all safety rules.
• Ensures company EH&S policies programs and testing are implemented consistently.

• Train employees on procedures and operations.
• Motivates and maintains a high level of morale among employees.
• Maintain a positive relationship with the customer by providing a high level of service and by meeting goals set by the customer and Railserve.
• Manage the operation ensuring that all aspects of the contract are met.

• Maintain a thorough knowledge of operating procedures safety rules locomotive operations and switching operations.
• Assist the Site Leader to ensure payroll fuel costs locomotive costs and other costs are managed effectively. Properly maintains the Purchase Order system. Develops and follows preventive maintenance program for all equipment with the assistance of the mechanical department.

• Assist the Site Leader with set up of work schedules so that each crew has the right mix of experience with the right people working in the right positions.
• Assist the Site Leader with administrative duties including time keeping hourly evaluation forms filing reports required by the customer and the company (e.g. car counts on time spots month end reports supervisory investigation reports accident derailment reports).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists Site Leader with supervising employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma required
• 1 years rail operations experience preferred
• 1 years supervisory experience preferred
• Military experience helpful

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Must be willing and available to be on call to cover shifts as needed.
• Superior communication skills; Must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal non-verbal and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
• Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.
• Must have the ability to work well with others as part of a team.
• Basic proficient in the Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form; ability to deal with standard problems that occur in rail car moving.
