I. Job Summary
This position requires an engineer with significant experience in the environmental and organic waste industry. The ideal candidate will possess superior problem solving and management skills that will be applied to a diverse portfolio of technical projects. You will be directly responsible for engineering construction troubleshooting and operations improvement at organic waste processing facilities. You will be responsible to maintain excellent communications with Corporate Organics staff as well as support for WM field staff. You will be continually challenged to use your knowledge and skills to advance WMs status as the leader and innovator in providing comprehensive organic waste management services to a variety of clients.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Engages directs and manages consultants and contractors that perform a variety of work tasks at organic waste processing facilities such as preparing engineering and construction plans commissioning and performance testing activities and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for final work product.
- Maintains a strong working relationship with local WM operations staff. Support staff training development of SOPs vendor management construction and commissioning activities troubleshooting operations. operations improvement projects and regulatory compliance.
- Manages organics construction projects from overseeing the preparation of construction plans to final project close-out. Tasks will include managing consultants contractors and budgets preparation of bid documents bid letting contract administration coordinating contractors construction quality assurance firms and coordination and tracking of material orders and deliveries.
- Actively develops manages and tracks capital budgets for engineering and construction projects and report to local management and corporate using Company procedures.
- Provides continuous evaluation of sites for adherence to construction and permit documents and for operations improvements and site expansion potential through regular site visits. Be proactive in pursuing and obtaining required internal approvals and/or permit modifications.
- Collaborates with other professionals and subject matter experts within WMO and other WM divisions to provide innovative cost effective engineering solutions to identified or potential operational environmental and compliance issues at organics processing facilities. Provide technical expertise and direction to management and other functional areas such as finance legal and safety.
- Participates in review of acquisitions and coordination and evaluation of divestitures including proforma modeling assistance and interaction with corporate and executive management during due diligence.

III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
Preferred:
Knowledge and experience with wastewater biosolids or similar waste treatment processes
Experience in developing engineering design documents (drawings such as layouts P&IDs and PFDs; specifications data sheets etc.); familiarity North American engineering codes and standards and the stages of design (10% 30% 60% IFC)
B. Preferred Qualifications
PMP Certification or PE Certification
C. Other Knowledge Skills or Abilities Required
- Proficient in MS Suite and MS Project as well as CADD Bluebeam and ProCore.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of time including travel to remote locations
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate/interact professionally with a variety of audiences
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- In depth knowledge of environmental regulations including solid waste air storm water and wastewater
- In depth knowledge of organics processing facility operations design and permitting; focus on anaerobic digestion and/or biosolids processing is preferred.
- Strong project management skills with ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to lead environmental engineering and multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate/direct operations staff
- Ability to read analyze and interpret business documents professional journals technical procedures and regulations.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations
- Experience with construction and different subtrades (site/civil process/mechanical electrical etc.)
- Understanding of capital cost estimating and tracking accounting processes and P&L statements.

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding tablet data entry office machine operation etc.).
- Ability to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 30 pounds.
- Site work may involve exposure to physical occupational risks associated with chemicals fuels wastewater and construction operations such as dirt odors noise weather extremes and/or similar.
