WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):
The Regional Communications Manager plays a key role in connecting people to the American Red Cross mission and services across the region. Through strategic communications media relations digital engagement and storytelling this position helps advance regional priorities increase public understanding and engagement and ensure communities know how to access Red Cross support when it matters most. The role supports all Lines of Service and functional areas through integrated people-centered communications.
Working closely with program and functional leaders across the organization the Regional Communications Manager provides communications and marketing support while also supportingdevelopingand guiding volunteers. This role spans both ongoing (blue sky) communications and disaster public affairs requiring sound judgmentcollaborationand calm decision-making in fast-moving emotionally complex environments.
All duties are performed in a manner consistent with the Fundamental Principles of the American Red Cross and in compliance with applicable federal state and local regulations.Thisrole is not eligible for relocationassistance.
This is a hybrid position that requires a willingness to travel. The ideal candidate will live no more than75 miles from Sioux Falls SD Chapter.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
1. Media Relations
Work with regional communications director regional executive executivedirectorand others to execute determined media relations strategy includingmaintainingexcellent media contact relationships news release writing and distributions pitchingetc.Respond to local media inquiries byarranginginterviewsand providing Red Cross-approved informationand mission-related storieswith sound judgment and timeliness.Serve as a Red Cross spokesperson train and prepare staff and volunteer spokespersons review support requests and develop and execute an effective communications strategy.
2. Public Affairs and Crisis CommunicationsSupport regional divisional and potentially national disaster public affairs activities.Providetraining development and coordination of disaster public affairs volunteers.Contribute to crisis communications planning messaging and execution during emergencies.May beto deploy in person orvirtually tosupport disaster response operations outside the home region.
3. Social EngagementImplement a regional social media engagement strategy aligned with enterprise-wide strategy and regional priorities.Develop creative engaging platform- and audience-specific content that encourages participation strengthens community partnerships and furthers the mission.Monitor and respond to social media activity asappropriate escalating issues when necessary.
4.Marketing SupportSupportintegrated marketing andprogramcampaigns across all Lines of Service and functional support departments.Collaborate with Development Marketing and Regional Financial Development partners to deliver clear engaging communications that motivate people to give get involved and take meaningful action.Encourage staff to betrainedonand use approved brand tools and resources.
5. Internal Communications
Support development and execution of strategic and change-management communications.
6. Volunteer Engagement
Support the Regional Communications Director in building engagingtrainingandsupervisinga regionalcommunications and disaster public affairs volunteer team.
Scope
Individual contributor role requiring fullproficiencyin applying subject matter knowledgeacquiredthrough several years of experience. Works independently and mayinstruct orcoach other professionals.
PAYINFORMATION:
The salary range for this position is: $56664-$62960

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
Education:Bachelors degree in communications Journalism Public Relations Marketing Public Affairs orrelatedfield OR equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
Experience:Minimum three to five years of related professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in communications journalism public relations marketing or public affairs.
Willingness to serve as a media spokespersonrequired;prior spokesperson or crisis communications experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities
Exceptional oral and written communication skills including demonstratedproficiencyin AP Style.
Strong writing and storytelling abilities with the capacity to craft clear compelling narratives that reflect Red Cross values and resonate across media digital platforms and community audiences.
High fluency in social media with experience tailoring content by platform audience and context.Day to Day Social Media Management and Creativity.
High emotional intelligence with the ability to communicate with empathy build trust and navigate sensitive orhigh stresssituations.Strong judgment and flexibility when priorities shift or information is incomplete.
Excellent organizational planning andfollow-throughskills.
Demonstrated experiencewith Microsoft Office Suitemedia monitoringtoolssocial mediamanagement platforms websitecontent managementsystems and other marketing tools.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently while partnering effectively across teams and with volunteers.
Travel:Travel may beapproximately 1025% depending on regional needs.
