We can offer you the following tasks

Bladed disks (blisks) in axial turbines are subject to complex aeroelasticinteractions. Intentional mistuning can be used to reduce vibration amplitudesand increase component lifetime requiring a solid understanding ofaerodynamic excitation and damping mechanisms.

Within the scope of this masters thesis the following topics will be addressed:

  • Analysis of aerodynamic excitation based on CFD simulations
  • Investigation of the influence of operating conditions and geometricvariations
  • Development of efficient modeling approaches for aerodynamicexcitation and damping
  • Optional: Application of data-driven methods (ML) to support modeldevelopment

The thesis offers the opportunity to work on current challenges in industrial turbomachinery research and to combine state-of-the-art CFD aeroelastic and data-driven methods.

You can help us with these qualifications

  • Masters student in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering or acomparable field
  • Experience with CFD simulations required preferably using NUMECAFineTurbo and/or ANSYS CFX
  • Basic knowledge of turbomachinery is desirable
  • Basic knowledge of Python and interest in machine learning are anadvantage
  • Strong analytical skills and interest in interdisciplinary topics
