Job Duties (Summary): - Provides effective management and leadership of staff in assigned unit including monitoring staff performance through regularly scheduled individual meetings preparing and discussing individual performance at least twice each year holding staff accountable for their performance and following up and administering disciplinary actions when required; build an effective work team in the unit by creating an environment of collegiality and cooperation among team members; encouraging open and honest communication; leading regular team meetings to share information and facilitate discussions suggestions and improvements etc.
- Provides front-line staff the necessary guidance and clinical direction to achieve desired State and Federal outcomes including child safety permanency and well-being (i.e. engage families through face-to face contacts assess the safety of children at risk of harm monitor case progress ensure essential supports are provided and facilitate the attainment of desired permanency plans determines and executes case modifications); assists workers in responding to the crisis nature of protective social services work for children and families utilizing critical thinking and competent decision-making skills; assumes organizational authority to intervene on behalf of neglected children ensuring child safety from abuse and neglect; ensures compliance.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with clients colleagues and internal or external customers to resolve issues respond quickly and effectively to complaints address special case situations etc.; answers after-hours case related questions and assist in the development of plans for families and children; demonstrates competence in court procedures and laws; understands legal issues affecting child welfare practice and the juvenile court processes and rules; may serve as agency spokesperson for applicable program..
- Acts as a senior member of management in assigned division by performing at least one of the following: (a) Uses cross-functional or program knowledge to bring a big-picture perspective to unit and/or program decisions policies and procedures; participate in cross-functional and cross-divisional task forces with accountability for improving operations; and/or (b) Serves as lead manager in the division by acting as a mentor for new or under-performing managers; manages staff with performance issues to turn their performance around; takes temporary responsibility for additional staff to cover during management time off or staffing shortages etc.; and/or (c) Act as the permanent designated assistant for the Section Manager by providing day-to-day leadership in his/her absence or through specific delegation of responsibilities; attending internal and/or external meetings to represent the division or program etc. d) Has overall fiscal responsibility for assigned program area; actively procures and monitors contracts serves as liaison with Fiscal Contracting and County Purchasing to develop/implement applicable contracts RFPs etc.; conducts cost benefit analysis to ensure fiscal responsibility; may negotiate and document subsidies and manage incentive funds.
- Provides technical guidance and direction for unit and section staff in unusual or non-standard situations including maintaining current on rules regulations policies and procedures in assigned unit and/or program; attends appropriate meetings and training sessions to remain current on technical issues.
- Attends required training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL and/or MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: - Lift and carry children child car seats and infant carrier large case files and occasionally push a cart containing case files
- Stand entire length of home visit (an hour or longer)
- Conduct home visits during the warmest months of the year (no air conditioning)
- Significant walking to from and during home visits supervised visitation court meetings and other obligations;
- Frequently enter and exit motor vehicle
- Frequently climbing and descending stairs
- Sitting for extended periods while working on the computer home visits court meetings etc
- Stooping bending crouching
HAZARDOUS and/or WORKING CONDITIONS: - Potentially hazardous/dangerous situations and could involve violent/upset clients
- Animals insects rodents in family homes
- Unstable Structures
- Must have mobile technology availability during work hours and on an emergency basis for after-hours calls
