Job Summary
The KDHE Camp Director for Little Apple Day Camp will work directly with the Recreation Supervisor to implement a licensed school age summer program for up to 300 youth. They will perform the business operations of Little Apple Day Camp including but not limited to coordinating field trips transportation administrative duties such as answering phones and questions from parents coordinating between campers parents and staff in relation to camp procedures. The selected candidate(s) must be able to attend all in-service training sessions.
The position includes fulltime daytime hours (7:30AM-5:30PM) Monday-Friday during the summer camp timeframe. Director duties run from late May 1st early August with staff hiring and pre-camp preparation from March to May.
Job Duties
- Plans and programs all day activities including life sports arts and crafts games music and outdoor recreation.
- Supervises day camp staff and campers.
- Prepares weekly and daily schedules.
- Maintains records for State of Kansas licensing requirements. Attendance Vaccine records physical form and permission forms.
- Coordinates scheduling for transportation and drivers.
- Notifies the proper agency in the event of an emergency.
- Safely operates motor vehicles to pick up and transport program participants to and from programs field trips and other daily activities.
- Provides supervision and guidance to a group of children or youth under the direction of a camp staff.
- Maintains open communication with program participants and parents of participants enrolled in education programs.
- Performs minor first aid for injuries that may occur during education programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge Skills & Additional Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in early childhood education elementary education recreation or a related field
- Experience necessary to achieve certification as a childcare facility director can be substituted for education requirement
- CPR/First Aid Certification (Can be obtained through Parks & Recreation)
- CDL with passenger endorsement or ability to obtain.
- Selected candidate(s) must pass a KBI background check.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills
- Experience with special needs campers.

- This is not a KPERS covered position.
- Seasonal position (March August).
