The Research Assistant Professor oversees operations of the Stem Cell Isolation and Xenotransplantation Facility and works with research staff and members at ISCRM and the college to develop and implement experiments; primary cell analyses and isolation are the primary scientific objectives of this core unit. The incumbent will be expected to ensure reliable operation and maintenance of core hardware and service delivery to internal (Einstein) and external users (from other institutions).
Oversee daily operation and all aspects of the Core Facility under supervision of a Faculty Scientific Director.
Work closely with the Xenotransplantation branch of the core facility to fulfill research needs of the users (maintain and expand current model/service portfolio based on user need).
Develop flow cytometry/cell sorting protocols. Design and develop specialized methods and/or techniques to provide protocols in cytometric procedures and assays in collaboration with users.
Operate and maintain existing analysis/sorting equipment and computer systems. Participate in the selection of new facility equipment and software with advancing technology so that the facility maintains its status as a cutting-edge research facility.
Perform and schedule routine and non-routine maintenance. Troubleshoot instrument problems and consult with vendor technical staff regarding the best approach for repair.
Design and implement procedures and protocols appropriate for the management of multi-user equipment.
Recruit and train new facility staff.
Train new users. Conduct training sessions and/or workshops on basic and advanced techniques. Develop training material and user manuals.
Operate application software. Train users in the use of the application software and assist users in interpreting and evaluating raw data.
Manage data storage backup and retrieval. Troubleshoot networked computers and network architecture/connections to facilitate data transfer storage and retrieval.
Work together with Faculty Scientific Director to establish facility priorities and to prepare long range strategic plans.
Assist principal investigators in technical aspects of the development of research proposals.
Perform various administrative duties. Oversee the billing to users. Prepare reports related to facility usage charts progress reports resource descriptions and other related tasks as needed.
