Join Our Team as a PACU Nurse. As a member of the interdisciplinary care team you will bring professional nursing knowledge and clinical expertise to the delivery and management of care for patients and their families. Nurses practice in an environment guided by the ANA Code of Ethics the UnityPoint Health Philosophy of Nursing and the Professional Nurse Practice Model collaborating closely with all caregivers.
The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) specializes in the recovery of patients of all ages following anesthesia for surgical procedures as well as interventions performed in Endoscopy and the Cath Lab. Our nurses are certified in BLS ACLS and PALS and are skilled in airway management hemodynamic stabilization and acute pain management. They ensure patients are safely monitored and stabilized before transitioning to the next phase of care whether returning to the ambulatory unit or being admitted for continued treatment.
The PACU provides 24/7 coverage and is supported by a dedicated on-call team with two RNs available to respond to after-hours needs.

Responsibilities
Assess patient and family needs develop individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team and provide appropriate education and referrals to ensure continuity of care.
Deliver high-quality holistic nursing care using the nursing process clinical expertise and critical thinking while adhering to established policies procedures and standards.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation to ensure a complete and legally sound record of patient care.
Delegate and provide direction to other healthcare providers holding team members accountable for their role in the plan of care.
Promote patient and workplace safety by preventing errors accidents and infections and by promptly reporting potential or actual concerns.
Uphold regulatory and organizational compliance maintain required licensure and certifications and demonstrate UnityPoint Health values in daily practice.
Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma from an RN program.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in primary state.
- Must apply within 90 days for licensure in secondary state.
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Must possess and maintain ACLS
