Description of Work
This posting is for an Engineering Technician III position in the Lexington Construction Office. This advanced level position will serve as a senior project roadway/structure inspector and will support higher level engineers in the administration of highway construction contracts. Job duties include monitoring contractors daily operations and performing and/or reviewing test reports to ensure that all work and materials conform to specifications plans and contract documents. This position will perform contract administration duties such as pay record entry/review materials-received reports certified payroll review daily diary review as-constructed plans preparation and monthly quantity verification prior to estimate payment. This position will resolve daily constructability issues and troubleshoots problems to mitigate delays to project delivery; assist other department personnel and contract forces in utility relocation efforts by inspecting and tracking relocation work; anticipate contractual problems and advise engineering staff of the need for plan revisions supplemental agreements or other contract adjustments to improve safety timely delivery and/or quality of delivered project; monitor contractors operations to ensure compliance with subcontract agreements and with the contract DBE requirements; ensure compliance with NC Sedimentation and Pollution Control Act and that all work performed in permitted areas is done in accordance with permits; direct and schedule the work of junior technicians in staking out and inspecting every phase of a construction project to ensure it is built according to contract documents in a timely and cost-effective manner; manage all aspects of assigned construction projects with limited supervision from higher level engineers. This position will also be directly involved with the leadership management counseling and training of junior technicians both Department and CEI. The applicant is expected to effectively communicate and coordinate work with contractors subcontractors utility owners and property owners to minimize delays and disturbances while maximizing progress of the projects. Additional Expectations:
Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights highway traffic weather extremes and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking climbing balancing kneeling and standing. Must be able to lift 50 lb. Must be able to work nights and/or weekends as required by project workload/staffing with fluctuating hours if needs be on any assigned project within the limits of Division 9. Must apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.
Safety-toed shoes are required.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
